So I decided I needed to do a more positive post since my last one was so negative. So I would do the post I have been wanting to do for a few months but just haven't gotten around to it. Before I get into that... I wanted to share a picture of our visitors we had.
I have been meaning to post about the Ghost Town Sego. I am obsessed with Ghost Towns and try to stop at them whenever we go on vacation somewhere. We went to Sego when we did our Moab trip in March. It isn't too far out of Moab. It was fun. There were some Petroglyphs when you first start driving into the canyon leading to Sego. They were everywhere! Sadly vandals have added their own petroglyphs with the ancient ones. I hate when people feel they need to vandalize or leave their mark. I don't care that Sue and Bob were there in 1992. It makes me mad when people vandalize historic things. Anyways... now that I got that off my chest we can move on to Sego.
Sego was a mining town from about 1911-1947. It went thru a few different owners throughout the years. This was just an abandoned house. The miners were able to build cabins and such around the area. This was a pretty neat looking house.
This was a Hotel. It is is sad condition now. There was a breeze when we were there and that whole building just swayed back and forth. I don't see it lasting much longer. It was neat though. Mike's nephew Aaron is in the picture pointing to something that must have been interesting.

This was the Mercantile which happened to be owned by the Mining Company. The Miners were only aloud to shop at this Mercantile. They would get in trouble if they were caught shopping in Nearby Thompson. So basically the mining company was paying the miners but then recouping their money in the items the miners had to buy from their Mercantile. This building was impressive. I could see it standing for the next 100 years if people don't get to it first.
This was a picture I found online of the town in its heyday. The hotel is the building on the left, then the Mercantile is in the middle. I have no idea what the building is to the right of the Mercantile. There was no evidence of the building having been there.
Anyways.... Sego was a neat little place. I highly suggest it to anyone when heading to Moab. It is a nice little side excursion that is will worth your time.
