I have never planted a Vegetable garden before, but that is what Mike and I did today. We have a huge area behind our garage that has been occupied by giant weeds. Well we evicted the weeds and decided to plant a garden. We bought a Tiller at Home Depot yesterday and went to town back there. I forgot to get a before picture, but this is when half of it was tilled. You can see on the right side where there were still some weeds waiting to be destroyed.

We went to Walmart and bought some tomato plants. We got some big tomatoes, medium Roma tomatoes, and Cherry Tomatoes. We also bought a Spaghetti Squash plant. I have never had Spaghetti Squash but Mike loves it! These are the plants we bought prior to plannting, sitting our our redneck patio table. Side Note: Mike wants to get rid of the big wire spool, but I wont let him. I am determined I will make it into something cool someday. For now it sits there being used as a patio table.

We also bought seeds for Peas, Radishes (although I think I planted those two a bit late in the year so I don't know if they will grow), Zucchini, and Cucumbers. We bought a weeping hose and some other misc gardening supplies.
This is the area after it was all tilled. Look how nice it looks!
This is the finished product. I really hope it all
works out. I am nervous to get my hopes up that anything will grow. I found out last year with flowers that I cannot grow something from seeds. If it is already half grown, I can replant and be fine... but straight from seeds.... no good.

Our neighbor behind us has a huge garden. They pretty well live off their garden. They can it and use it
thru the winter. He is very knowledgeable and has been giving us pointers. One thing I have forgotten to ask him... is how often to water. I am thinking about a half hour every other day. Does that sound right to people? I went on a gardening forum and that is what people suggested. So for all of you gardeners out there.... please help! I need all the suggestions I can get!

Looks great hope you get lots of food! As for the spool I have totally been wanting one of those for a picnic table!! You bury the bottom part in the ground, and paint it and it'll look great!!
I love the spool/table. Good luck w\the garden, hope u get lots of veggies. I am always willing to take some extra if you have left overs :)
I have overwatered everything I have ever planted. So I asked my sister-in-law for some advice about watering and here is what she told me. While they are seeds in the ground and young plants you need to keep the soil moist. If you can stick your finger down an inch in the soil and not feel moisture, then you need to water again. After that water twice a week about 20-30 min. When plants get older and are about 6-8in. stop watering from above and start watering close to the ground (turn sprinkler upside down). Water older plants one time a week for 30 min. When it is really hot out, water two times a week. I hope that helps. Have fun with your garden.
