A Master Plan

Mike and I went and had a consultation with a doctor at the University of Utah Reproductive Center this morning. It is nice to finally have a plan of action and to know how to proceed from here. So we went over our tests results with the doctor and have decided that we will try at least one round of IUI. The chances of that working for us is really only like a 10% chance, but I figure it wouldn't hurt to try it before we rush into In-Vitro (which we really would not be rushing into that anyways since we aren't rich).

So Mike is going to go see a Urologist. We found something out that we never even thought about with him. He has had two hernia surgeries. The Doctor was saying that sometimes after the surgeries it can restrict or block tubes. I honestly never even though that his hernia surgeries may have been the culprit. So I guess he will find out for sure what his situation is once he sees the Urologist, but there is no way to correct it if it is blockage from the hernia surgeries.

In the meantime, I will just relax this round since I had already taken the Femara for this cycle. So I am not going to stress about it or try to stick to any particular schedule. The chances of Mike and I getting pregnant on our own is pretty much non-existent. So this will be my calm before the storm. Next month the testing will start. I will keep up the Femara and go in for a sonohysterogram (I think that's what it's called) towards the beginning of my cycle to make sure there are no problems with cysts or anything like that. Then will come more testing to make sure everything is working how it should. If everything comes out ok in the testing… then the IUI will begin. At this time I am not sure what all they will need to do on testing and how that will all play out. All I know is my first step of the sonohysterogram… and then they will figure things out from there.

As I mentioned, we were told we probably have about a 10% chance of getting pregnant with IUI. We have a 65-70% chance of getting pregnant with In-vitro. The doctor stressed the importance of age and how the success rate is higher in the 20's or early 30's. Since 30 is creeping up on me, we will try to go in for In-Vitro before I hit that magical age. So that will probably be in the next year or two. So Mike and I will hopefully be able to figure out funding and set aside some money for that. So really I guess we wont be doing extravagant trips or anything fun like that for awhile since we really will need to focus on saving money and getting ready for In-Vitro since it sounds like that is what we will probably be doing.

It is hard to accept that we are going to be getting into the expensive stuff like In-Vitro. The money aspect really scares me. I guess it is slowly starting to sink in that it is going to have to happen. Luckily I still have at least a year to really accept it before we will even be remotely close to the point of actually doing it. So, I just have to take a deep breath, and jump in with both feet, and pray that something good will come out of this.

We were given a %6 chance by those same doctors and you know the outcome :) I am so glad you finally went with them. I wish you the best of luck!!
