Steamboat Springs

Thursday morning we headed to Steamboat Springs, Colorado for a short vacation. They had the Rocky Mountain Mustang Roundup car show up there. This was my 2nd time going to that show. Mike didn't enter a car... but we still had fun. We went up with Mike's parents, their dog, and Mike's niece Saleen.

Everyone standing by the three cars that were taken to steamboat, in front of our motel. From left to right: Mike's '94 convertible, His mom's car "Pinkie", his dad drove the Cobra (which is mystic chrome so depending on how you look at it, the car may look purple, blue, or green).

About an hour after we got there on Thursday we did the pony trails. That is where all the mustangs go for a nice little drive. They did a poker run at the same time. So you had check points along the way where you would stop and get another card. At the end you ended up with 5 cards and the goal was to have a some cards that could equal 21. Mike and I actually got 21. They then put everyone who got 21 in a drawing. Sadly we didn't win anything.
This is Orka sitting in the back of Mike's dads Cobra at one of the pony trails check points. You can see all the mustangs parked everywhere.

Friday started with the Autocross. We watched that for a few minutes. I was a bit nervous sitting where I was with cars driving directly at me before turning on the course. I am not so keen on having any car drive straight towards me even if I know they will turn. Plus the cars were going fast and could have easily lost control. I survived though. I tried to get some pictures of a Ford GT going around the track but it was too fast for my camera. By the time the actual picture was taken, it would be long gone.

After the Autocross we went on a nice drive to Steamboat Lake. While at the lake we did a little hike which took us to a tombstone in the middle of nowhere. I guess back in the day a family homesteaded in the area but there are no signs that there was ever a homestead now.

This was one of the pictures taken at the lake that I thought turned out good

Saturday was the car show. We walked around and looked at all the cars. I made sure to look at a few things on the '67 mustangs for ideas for my car. I actually took some pictures of different cars which I posted on my Mustang blog (which you can get to by clicking the link on the right sidebar, or you can go to www.melissasmustang.blogspot.com) We also did some shopping. Steamboat is just like Park City, so there are tons of little shops to go into on main street.

Sunday we headed home. It wasn't the best of weather on the way home. We got stuck in a hailstorm but luckily the cars came out of that ok. It was a fun trip, but I was glad to get home and have some time to get unpacked before having to head off to bed. I am very glad we were able to go.

Jenny and Roger were nice enough to come and house sit for us while we were gone. We would have had no idea anyone even stayed with how clean Jenny left the house. I think she left it cleaner than it was to start with. Thanks Jenny for all the help! Also thanks for leaving us some no bake cookies!
