Mike ran the Ogden Marathon back in May. I always go with him on his marathons and sit at the finish line waiting for him. Well this was the second year he was running this marathon. We went to Ogden the night before and spent the night in a scary Motel. I say scary because at 2 am we woke up to someone trying to get into our room. Mike peaked his head outside and said it looked like a prostitute. She finally gave up and left. I have never been so scared in my life! Anyways we got up bright and early the next morning so we could go drop Mike off at the buses that would take him to the start of the Marathon. I remember he came out of the bathroom with a bulging side pocket. He said he put an extra shirt in his pocket to keep him warm at the start line of the marathon. I didn't think anything of it... in fact I think I teased him about it. So off he goes to run his marathon.
--- Fast Forward 3 1/2 Hours---
I am sitting at the finish line waiting for him to come across. I got a seat on the bleachers like I did the prior year and kept watch. I usually watch for whatever shirt he left in that morning so I can tell its him coming from further away. Well I happened to see him but was confused because he was not wearing what I remember him wearing. He saw me in the bleachers and pointed at me and then at his shirt which said "Melissa will You Marry Me??". I did not see that coming. I was in complete shock. So he runs across the finish line and I headed down off the bleachers to find him. I remember people kept asking if I was Melissa and then Congratulating me. I walked over to the runners area to find him while fighting back tears. As soon as I saw him in the runners area I hugged him and cried. I had not expected it and the fact that someone would go to so much trouble for me shocked me! He then put a temporary ring on my finger (we had gone ring shopping the week before and My ring was not going to be ready for another week...Hence why I didn't expect him to propose). He then laid down for about 15 minutes to recuperate since he had just run 26.2 Miles with a shirt and ring in his pocket. He said he stopped right before he turned the corner to the finish line and put the shirt on for me. anyways it was cute! I am glad that I have a cute story to tell about our proposal. He did a good job. It still blows me away that he would go thru so much trouble for me. I guess he really loves me :-)
