I have been hesitant to blog about my fish pond yet because It is still not done. In fact we might end up pulling out the liner (Due to an irritating leak) and replace it with the plastic liner. As it sits right now we just need to do some more landscaping around it, but that will wait until we decide if we want to replace the liner now or later.
Anyways this is the before picture. There are lots of weeds but this ugly ground cover stuff that has always bothered me. Plus it is starting to grow into the lawn so Mike was fine with it being uprooted.

This is after I cleared out all the weeds and ground cover. There are some cool flower things that i didn't want to lose so I tried to build the pond without disturbing them. They may have gotten torn up a little bit but I have faith they will make a full recovery and be back next spring.

This is the liner and waterfall we bought. We decided to start with the preformed liner simply because it was cheaper to buy a used one on KSL. It has worked ok, minus a few leaks but it will work until we have more money to spend on the other liner. We ended up not even using the waterfall section because it just looked too cheesy and there was really no way to make it look natural. So Mike purchased a plastic barrel from his work we decided to have water pouring out of. It gives it more of a modern look I think. I eventually want an all natural look, but that may have to wait.

And here is the (almost) finished project. The picture quality is crappy because I took it on my cell phone. I have a few pond plants in there including water lilies.... and even put goldfish in. I bought the cheapo feeder fish to begin with since I wasn't sure how good I would be at keeping fish alive. So far we have lost half of the fish... and have one to 2 casualties a day. So that kinda sucks. I need to test the pH levels in the water and see if that might be what is causing problems. Plus they don't seem interested in their food pellets so I might look at a different fish food. I still have lots to figure out, but It is still fun being able to sit and watch the fish and listen to the water cascade down.

It is looking good! I have always wanted a koi pond.. one day. Until then I would just settle for some grass ;)
I would just go ahead and get some baby koi. I had one and he was really hardy (until my dad shocked him to death) I had Mosa for I think almost 4 yrs.
Put them in the pond in the sack they come in for at least an hour. You might want to open the top a few times or attach it to a rock so they get some new air. The water should be fine, we always had to let our water sit for a day or so because of the chlorine in the water. So it should be ok now, the koi will even live in the pod over winter ( as long as it doesn't freeze completely. Good luck. =)
That is really cool, now I want one! Only nothing would survive in our harsh winters :(
