Catching up

I am behind on blogging. So a lot happened this weekend. I finally managed to find a home for the McCaw rock. It has been propped up by our phone book for over a year.
I finally mad a setting for him and placed him in our living room. I am pleased with how it all turned out. I am glad to finally have a place for him to sit in our house where he looks good and will get noticed. I am really fond of this rock.

I also made a dog bed for Mikes Bull dog. It was just laying on a blanket before but I decided a bed would look much nicer. I didn't even notice it till now that there is a dog bone siting by him. We have dog bones scattered all over this house.

Sunday morning was a sad morning. Our parakeet died. I was making waffles and heard a thump. I looked over and he was at the bottom of the cage struggling to get up. He maybe lasted a half hour after that before he was gone. I didn't realize it at the time... but a couple weeks ago I noticed things were off with him.. I feel bad that he was sick and I didn't think to take him to a vet. I feel horrible now realizing I didn't have a single picture of him. I really didn't think it would hit me so hard losing that bird. He wasn't very friendly, but I still kinda liked him. So Mike buried him in the back yard. I couldn't stand an empty cage so I disinfected it and we went and got these cuties...
We found a guy selling them in West Valley. They are hand tame and are babies. We wanted to make sure to get hand tamed birds so we could handle them and could train them. We also asked for Males because we would like to teach them to talk. For some reason, only Males tend to talk. so hopefully the guy was right and these are males. I guess we will see.
We originally were only going to get one... but I convinced Mike we should get two. So the lighter one is mine... and the darker one is Mikes. They are way cute. I am glad we got two, they are siblings so it has to be nice for them to have each other. They are fun. I have big plans for the things I want to teach my bird. Oh and I still haven't thought of a name.... but we will see what happens.

Funny Moments

I decided that since my last entry was such a downer post… I needed to do a humorous one. So I decided I would record some of the funny moments I have experiences lately.

So my cousin Cassie and I were discussing how many kids she wants. Leave it to Cassie to think of how many kids she wants based on Disneyland….”"Casey says he wants a football team but I think it’s safe to say we have agreed on only 2. I use to want 4 because than that way when you go to Disneyland you fill the splash mountain log and no one is left behind or no random person is in your picture. But then I realized I would have to pop out, and pay for those 4 kids so I decided I am good with 2 :)"

Yesterday it was me, mike, Hannah and Shelley at the cemetery releasing balloons. We watched the balloons for a few but it was cold so I suggested we leave. Hannah argued and said we had to stay till we couldn’t see the balloons anymore. I told her it was going to take awhile. She pulls out a thing of fruit snacks and says “I know, why else do you think I brought snacks?” It just cracked me up.

Another thing involving Hannah happened in St George when Jenny and I went to help my dad get his house ready to rent out. We had taken Hannah with us to help out with jenny’s kids while we worked. Anyways Hannah was standing in the kitchen and suddenly says “it stinks!” She turns to jenny who was standing by her and says “is it you?” The best part, was Hannah was dead serious. It was great!

Then of course there was the phone call from Hell my dad got last week. His phone is setup to announce who is calling when he gets a phone call. So suddenly his phone goes off and says “Call from Hell” repeatedly. It turns out it was a guy named Hal, but the phone pronounced it as Hell. It was classic.

Anyways…. I realize most of these are the “gotta be there” moments, so most won’t find the same amount of humor as I did. Either way, I found those instances to be very humorous and they certainly made my day!

Happy Birthday Mom

Today was a rather emotional day. I didn't expect it to be so hard. I had a dream last night about living my last day... which of course I woke up depressed. I needed to cry, partly from the dream, but mostly because today would have been my moms 61st birthday. So I managed to make it in to work... and was doing ok fighting off tears... but it got too hard. So I went to talk to my boss to see about going home and ended up just breaking down and bawling to him. I didn't mean to... and I am sure it was awkward for him... I could hardly get out enough words to tell him why I was crying. All in all... he was ok with me leaving.

So I got in my car and went directly to the cemetery and stood at my moms gave and cried for awhile. I really needed a good cry. I really do miss her a ton. I honestly thought that since I had survived one birthday without her already, that the 2nd time around wouldn't be so bad. I was wrong. It was probably harder on me than the first one was.

I ended up going home and crying some more... but then decided I didn't want to be alone so I met Mike at his work and went out to lunch with him. Then he headed back to work and I headed to the store. I bought some flowers (per my Dad's request since he is out of town) and 8 balloons for my mom. I bought a balloon for each of family member (My dad, and the 7 of us daughters). I tried to see who could go to the cemetery but understandably on such short notice... not many could. So It ended up being Mike and I and Shelley and Hannah.

It was nice being able to send some balloons her way. I am sure she enjoyed it. I really do miss her and wish she was still around. Sometimes it is still hard to think that she is really gone and it will be awhile before I can see her again. I never thought she would be gone so young.

Anyways other news is that I am going to be going thru training this weekend so I can start my volunteering at a Grief Counseling place for children. I think it will be good for me. I feel like I am at a much better place with my grief than i was last year... and I want to be able to help others learn to cope with the loss of a loved one. So it will be interesting to see how it all turns out.

We are starting to make some good headway with my Mustang. You can check my mustang restoration blog. I am excited because we were able to get some style steel wheels for it that are correct for 1967. I am super stoked because we got them for such a good deal! we are also waiting for the new floor to arrive so that can be welded into place. Lots of interesting happenings with the car lately... its exciting!!
